Equality Florida Institute
About Us
Equality Florida Institute (EQFLI) is Florida’s largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people. Since our founding in 1997 by Nadine Smith and Stratton Pollitzer, we have built a statewide movement of nearly 500,000 pro-equality supporters, more than 1,000 volunteers, and staff working in communities across Florida.
We envision a world where every LGBTQ person is treated with dignity and respect in every part of life.
Through grassroots organizing, education, and coalition building, we’re working to make that vision real. A Florida where every LGBTQ child grows up loved and accepted by their family. Where every student feels safe and welcome at school and has the opportunity to thrive. Where LGBTQ people can build careers free from discrimination, access affirming and culturally competent healthcare, and grow older surrounded by communities that embrace them for exactly who they are.
For nearly three decades, Equality Florida Institute has brought people together across our state to change hearts and minds, strengthen communities, and build a Florida where every LGBTQ person can live openly, safely, and with pride.
